European TrUstworthy GeneRative AI & AutonOmisation Frontier Models for Manufacturing-X Competitiveness

euroFMX aims to establish the first European ecosystem of Generative AI & Autonomisation Frontier Models fit for manufacturing, reinforcing Europe’s competitiveness and strategic autonomy in the digital age. The project is structured along four strategic pillars: Pillar I provides an Industrial AI that acts autonomously, systemically, and at scale setting the path towards a manufacturing-friendly Artificial General Intelligence. Pillar II strengthens the future workforce, bridging AI talent and industrial know-how via large-scale skilling, co-creation and open knowledge communities. Pillar III reclaims European digital and AI sovereignty by delivering industrial-grade, privacy-preserving data spaces and HPC-based AI factories, democratizing access to resources previously dominated by big non-EU companies. Pillar IV optimises frontier GenAI models for manufacturing, introducing physics-informed graph neural networks, multimodal reasoning, and agentic orchestration platforms for trustworthy, interpretable and regulation-ready deployment.
euroFMX will validate its breakthroughs across multiple high-impact pilots, covering machining, robotics, automotive, circular manufacturing, and human-AI collaboration. Overall, euroFMX, advances a EURO 4 EURO strategy: a manufacturing GenAI built in Europe, by Europeans, with European open-source software technology and knowledge, for European industry, and adhering to European values & open standards.
CERTH/ITI is involved in the technical implementation of euroFMX through the provision of core data, platform and agentic AI technologies for trustworthy, sovereign and human-centric Gen-AI for manufacturing. CERTH/ITI, with its expertise on industrial data spaces and digital twins, leads the work on Digital Platforms for Manufacturing Intelligence and Automation that involves turning existing manufacturing platforms into an Integrated Development and Finetuning Environment (IDFE) orchestrating agents through agentic CPPSoS (Cyber-Physical Production Systems of Systems) swarm integration, digital twins and human-in-the-loop workflows along the whole production lifecycle. In parallel, CERTH/ITI co-develops multimodal LLM/SLM-based interaction layers and lifecycle intelligence engines for explainable, context-aware human–AI collaboration on the shop floor and contributes to assessment frameworks for explainability, safety, security, and bias in agentic workplaces. CERTH/ITI is also active in pilot work packages, providing support for data foundries, integration of euroFMX models in TEFs and Industrial Living Labs, and deployment of symbiotic human-AI and autonomous immune-system solutions in real industrial environments. Beyond the technical stack, CERTH/ITI contributes to open call management, impact evaluation and ecosystem building activities, helping grow the euroFMX community, nurture data and GenAI value-chain communities, and align research outcomes with European manufacturing needs and regulatory frameworks.
